As we head into spring/summer remember our skin is the largest organ we have. Sheen Magazine had the opportunity to talk with skin expert Yvette Royal on the ins and outs of skin care.

As women age, their skin and hair go through changes—what are some essential beauty and skincare routines that help maintain a youthful glow?

Beauty and skin care routines go beyond the product you put on your skin. As a NASM certified Nutrition coach (National Academy of sports medicine) I advocate for solid nutrition, -clean eating, lots of water, 7-8 hours of sleep , and supplements such as probiotics for gut health and Vitamin D! In terms of products, a retinal at bed time for anti aging. An appropriate toner that exfoliates the skin without stripping  for radiant skin while keeping black heads on the nose at bey. Vitamin C topically and of course daily sunscreen.

How important is nutrition and hydration in preserving skin elasticity and overall beauty as we get older?

Nutrition  should be top priority and despite the plethora of information, many don’t understand that there is a correlation between clean eating and health skin. Excess processed sugar causes something called AGES ) advanced glycation End products. Sugar breaks down collagen and elastin

What are some common misconceptions about aging and beauty, and how can women embrace aging while still feeling confident and radiant?

Age is your energy, with proper skin care, you can literally slow down the process of aging. Investing in proper skincare routines will help women feel great at any age. We are in a new age of ” Anti” aging where there are countless products and  procedures, both invasive and noninvasive that can strengthen the skin’s barrier and prevent loss of elasticity in the skin. The biggest misconception is that age = looking tired and wrinkled.

With hormonal changes affecting skin, hair, and body shape, what are some effective ways to adapt beauty routines to these changes?

Practice daily acts of self care, facials don’t have to be done at an esthetic salon. Take time for an even regimen, the body goes into repair mode while we sleep so that an amazing time to add a serum or extra hydration . Exercise is critical for obvious reasons, in terms of changes in our body women  begin to lose muscle mass after age 35 if they are not doing some form of resistance training . With less muscle mass women are more at risk for all types of health concerns and a slower recovery This affects  skin aging as well.Exercise also slows down the  entire aging process.

Beyond skincare and makeup, what role does mindset and self-care play in maintaining beauty and confidence as women age?

At Anastasia’s Crown our vision is for women to shift their mindsets to transform their minds and body. It is our belief that that practicing daily gratitude affirmations, meditation, prayer, journaling and positive self talk are the highest forms of self. Are and if those are the starting point we will think highly enough of ourselves to work on our outer “face and bodies” Yvette Royal an esthetician and nutrition accountability coach. Before launching Anastasia’s Crown she represented such brands as Clinique, MAC,and Sephora’s with over 25 years in the cosmetic and skincare industry
