There is no shortage when it comes to black-owned hair brands. As the years go on, more companies are flourishing onto the shelves at our beauty retail stores. Since the release of brands such as SheaMoisture and Carol’s Daughter (who have been in existence since the early 2000s), we’ve seen a great amount of expansion when it comes to natural hair care products. Although the two brands are no longer black-owned, the brands that are originally black-founded, started a hair revolution and we’re loving every second of it.
Today, we’re highlighting five black-owned hair care brands that have not let us and our hair down.
The brand was first brought to us in 1990 and since then, Cornell McBride – the founder has not released one product that we don’t love. The salon-quality products included in the brand works for all hair types. The brand also includes products that were specifically made to care for your wigs and extensions.
Founder, Rochelle Graham-Campbell is the mastermind behind Alikay Naturals. We also love that this brand includes organic and natural ingredients in their products. It’s known to offer products that strengthens curls while giving them the TLC it needs.
When sisters, Ellen and Ione Rucker came together to create a vegan haircare brand, they absolutely did the damn thing. We love that the company includes clean ingredients in their formulations. Most products include ginger, tumeric, and carrot root. It truly feels like we’re feeding our hair nothing but nutrients.
Men and women have been raving about Nairobi Professional since it’s launch in 1996. The hair powerhouse company has given us quality hair care products time and time again and have not disappoint. We love that they use ingredients that are nourishing for the hair. The brand includes relaxers, conditioners, finishing agents, and much more. Whether you’re getting styled on in the salons with Nairobi or at-home, it’s always a satisfying experience using their products.
