Ice Cube and New Line President and CCO Richard Brener made a culturally satisfying announcement, confirming in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that after 23 years, the highly anticipated film, Last Friday, is on the way.

Friday, directed by F. Gary Gary and written by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh, debuted in theaters thirty years ago in 1995, with a budget of $3.5 million, going on to gross $27,467,564 at the box office and becoming a cult classic and feel good, comfort food movie. “Bye, Felicia”, one of the most quoted diss phrases of all time, was born via the iconic film that stars a highly accredited list of Hollywood favorites, such as Chris Tucker, Nia Long, and Regina King. After the success of the first, Next Friday (2003) was the follow up, starring the legendary, John Witherspoon and Mike Epps, alongside the BIG3 founder, which recently announced NBA Champion, Dwight Howard, for the 2025 season. In 2002, the culture was gifted with Friday After Next, a Christmas classic and necessary addition to the holiday film season.

In an interview with Sirius XM’s Flavor of the Week, the rapper expressed his previous frustrations on the production delay of Last Friday, pointing out the passing of key figures from the film. I was a little hot ’cause they had took so long. Because John Witherspoon passed away,” he recalled. “Tiny passed away. A.J. Johnson passed away. Man, we keep losing people. And y’all keep d*cking around not doing the movie the way it need to be done.”

Warner Bros. recently acquired the rights of the Friday franchise, with their purchase of New Line Cinema, which maintains Ice Cube as the film’s writer and star. Co-chairpersons and CEOS of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, Mike De Luca and Pamela Abdy, recently took over the studios film division and contributed to the Last Friday greenlight, as they were involved with previous Ice Cube penned projects, such as Players Club and All About the Benjamins.

Cast details and a release date for Last Friday have yet to be revealed.
