You can’t have a conversation about girl groups in music without mentioning TLC. Composed of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, TLC broke down endless boundaries, sold millions and millions of records, and proceeded to influence an entire generation. Hit singles including “No Scrubs,” “Waterfalls,” and “Creep” continue to ensue instant nostalgia, the true definition of timeless music.
Now for the first time, T-Boz and Chilli are opening up in Lifetime’s new TLC Forever Documentary. Sheen had the pleasure of attending the first look screening, sitting in an intimate theater inside Theater 68 in North Hollywood, California to preview the highly-anticipated film. With lunch provided, the screening left us in both laughter and tears, as we followed TLC’s journey to superstardom — which includes all the highs and lows that come with fame.
Following the screening, Chilli sat down for a Q&A, rocking a white halter top, baggy jeans, and purple heels. If there’s one thing you can count on from Chilli, it’s that her outfits will always be on point!
When asked how she felt about the documentary, Chilli states, “It was actually very fun, I have to say. Brought back so many memories, so many things I totally forgot about. Oh my gosh, we did do that. Or he said that, whatever. It jogged my memory, so it was fun.”
The beauty lies in the fact that the documentary barely covers the surface of the real TLC story.
“And it’s still so much more,” Chilli states. “You can only tell so much in such a short period of time. We always say some stuff, we can never tell. Just gotta keep it in the TLC vaults. What goes in the vault never comes out.”
Of course, a tragic moment arrived when the group lost Left Eye to a car accident in Honduras. Chilli
She states, “Some of the bittersweet for me was on the airplane, because I miss Lisa. We miss her every day of our life and we will, but looking at that it’s like [sighs]. It definitely pulled on our heartstrings.”
TLC Forever premieres on Saturday, June 3rd at 8pm PST, and will be available for streaming the following day.
