TikTok continues to prove why they’re the #1 social media app for Gen Z, with millions of creators finding their voice on the platform daily.
On Sunday, February 26th, a beautiful Sunday in Los Angeles, TikTok hosted an intimate Visionary Voices Black Hollywood Brunch at the Pendry Hotel in West Hollywood. The special event was to honor the visionary Black creatives and culture changemakers in media and entertainment.
The festivities kicked off with a powerful introduction by TikTok’s Shavone Charles, Head of Diversity & Inclusion Communications, who has made it her mission to advocate for inclusion.
Charles emphasized “the importance of giving credit where credit is due, giving flowers where flowers are due,” and further “amplifying, elevating, and celebrating our underrepresented creators across industries.” She states, “Today, we’re celebrating you. The visionary, trend-setting, culture-shifting, black creators. Please clap it for yourselves.”
The panel followed suit, hosted by TikTok’s #BlackTikTok Community Manager Alexzi Girma. It featured honorees from TikTok’s first-ever 2023 #BlackTikTok Visionary Voices List, including @juicybodygoddess, @kahlilgreene, and @_itzpsyiconic_ — all of whom have found their own niche and audience on the app.
Kudzi Chikumbu, Global Head of Creator Marketing was also present, reminding us to celebrate the industry disruptors, creators, tastemakers and allies who are making an impact and amplifying Black voices across the entertainment industry.
Of course, the food from the brunch was delicious, and guests were welcomed with cocktails and mimosas, good music, and experiential installations.
