In the heart of gaming and esports, where digital meets culture and connection, The Kickback 2023 emerged as a pool of innovation, diversity, and opportunity. In partnership with Cxmmunity Media Co, Spotify, and additional sponsors, The Kickback served as a celebration of talent and a platform for change. Focused on providing professional, educational, and career opportunities, The Kickback 2023 showcased the incredible strides made by young Black gamers and the unprecedented possibilities they are crafting within the gaming universe.

The gaming world has long been criticized for its lack of diversity, but The Kickback 2023 shattered those barriers. By spotlighting young Black gamers and their remarkable achievements, the convention became a testament to the power of representation. Attendees were inspired by the stories of these trailblazers, learning how they created and seized opportunities in an industry once seen as exclusive.

The Kickback & Community Media was accompanied by industry giants, forming partnerships that further enhanced the event’s impact. Collaborations with Spotify, Rap Snacks, OTE, and even the Atlanta Hawks added a layer of prestige and excitement. These partnerships not only enriched the attendees’ experience but also highlighted the growing support from established sectors for the gaming community.

Guiding the attendees through this unique journey was none other than NBA2k Live host, athlete, and media maven Christina “Ms. Basketball” Granville. With her familiar and exciting energy, Ms. Basketball was able to highlight a deep understanding of both the gaming and sports worlds. Along with the HBCU ESPORTS League, “Professor Basketball” also brought several students from the historic Morris Brown College, connecting them with career and educational opportunities.

In our exclusive interview, Ms. Basketball states:

“Whatever you’re striving for in the real world, you can always find a way to incorporate that in the gaming world. One of the biggest things I want to focus on is more people who look like us entering in this space. We need attorneys reviewing these gamers’ contracts, hosts, and gaming leagues. Our culture has integrated so much into gaming. We deserve to see ourselves in these spaces.”

The Kickback 2023 was not just about gaming; it was a collective of creativity and talent in its myriad forms. One of the most significant highlights of The Kickback 2023 was the collaboration with the Atlanta Hawks, an NBA team that recognized the potential of esports. Through workshops, panel discussions, and friendly gaming tournaments, the Hawks engaged with the attendees, fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship. This partnership bridged the gap between traditional sports and esports and emphasized the importance of teamwork and dedication.

The event’s energy skyrocketed with performances from none other than NLE Choppa, He was a perfect way to connect the worlds of entertainment, gaming, and connection. The crowd was blown away by his engaging stage presence and his ability to bring together gamers, influencers, and creatives in a one-of-a-kind space.
