On Monday, November 20th, the Atlanta legend hosted an exclusive red carpet premiere and screening of Da’Partments. Presented by his own company Grand Hustle Films and DC Young Fly’s company 85 South, the star-studded event celebrated the release of T.I.’s new independent film on Tubi.
Executive produced by DC Young Fly, Lil Duval, and Karlous Miller, the hood comedy is loosely based on Tip’s own upbringing in Atlanta. The plot: “everything seems normal in West Atlanta’s Cedar View Apartments until you start pulling back the layers. It’s at that very moment where you’re introduced to a hilarious world of magic, history, comedy, and blackness, swirled up in the way only Atliens can do it.”
T.I. graced the red carpet at Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills, alongside his wife Tiny and their song King — who makes his acting debut in Da’Partments.
Prior to the screening, Tip gave a short speech: “Thank y’all, this is a real special moment. Not just for me, but for the people who share this opportunity. To share this project with me. LWe hope you guys support us enough to watch it and like it, share it with your friends. If you don’t, keep it to yourself” — in which the crowd erupts in laughter.
The film itself had everyone in attendance cracking up in their seats, as Da’Partments straddles the fine line between “the everyday struggles of the underprivileged and the enchantment hidden within an apartment complex.”
After the screening, a hilarious Q&A commenced with the cast of the film, moderated by the one and only DJ Whoo Kid.
