On an exhilarating October afternoon, the historic Kings Theatre in Brooklyn opened its doors to a crowd buzzing with anticipation for the annual “I WILL GRADUATE” Day celebration, a powerful event aimed at inspiring New York City’s youth to pursue education and chase their dreams. Hosted by former E! News anchor Terrence J, the event featured a star-studded lineup that brought together influential figures across music, sports, film, politics, and education—all in support of fostering ambition and resilience in students from across the city.

Participating schools received the “BE GREAT” curriculum, a transformative six-week program that equipped students with the tools to stay focused and committed to excellence throughout the school year. Each week, students engaged in lessons that promoted resilience, goal-setting, and academic discipline, empowering them to bring their A-game to every aspect of their education. The program culminated on IWG Day, where students, teachers, and administrators united at the world-renowned Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY, to celebrate their achievements and stand in solidarity for education. This powerful event was a testament to their hard work and dedication, marking the start of an inspired and successful school year.

With both in-person and virtual appearances, students were treated to words of encouragement and wisdom from some of today’s most impactful figures. The event kicked off with a dazzling red carpet, where attendees checked in and gathered for the ceremony’s start. Kings Theatre’s red carpet was a sight to behold, brimming with energy and excitement as the notable guests arrived, pausing for photos and speaking to students who looked up to them as examples of excellence and resilience.

Hosted by the inspiring CEO and Founder of “I WILL GRADUATE” (IWG) Tonya Lewis-Taylor, the event saw attendees from all walks of life, demonstrating the power of community and the collective support of young people. The “I WILL GRADUATE” mission—to inspire academic success and instill a belief in the power of education—was apparent in every aspect of the day’s program.

For the first time, this year’s celebration included an awards ceremony recognizing key individuals for their outstanding contributions to IWG’s mission. Among those honored were the late FatMan Scoop, the legendary voice of IWG, whose dedication to the cause left an indelible mark on the organization. Monte and Avery Lipman, founders of Republic Records, received awards for their philanthropic efforts, along with rapper, producer, and entrepreneur Jim Jones. Brooklyn Collegiate Academy Principal Darry White and New York City Council Member Farah Louis were also recognized, showing students the wide-reaching impact of education and leadership.

As the event unfolded, producer Cash Cobain’s presence brought a particularly high level of excitement among students. Known for his innovative beats and as a leader in New York’s drill music scene, Cobain’s presence sparked inspiration among the youth, many of whom admired his journey from local talent to recognized producer. Rising R&B star LAILA and actress and singer Naturi Naughton further amplified the excitement, sharing their personal stories of overcoming adversity and believing in themselves, even when facing challenges.

From the world of politics, key city figures graced the event in support of educational success. Notables included Adrienne E. Adams, Speaker of the New York City Council, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, and Council Member Rita Joseph, Chair of the Education Committee. Each offered insights into the city’s dedication to youth education and initiatives to provide resources for students to achieve their academic goals.

Incoming Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos also addressed the crowd, providing a powerful message on the importance of education in shaping the city’s future and encouraging students to see themselves as leaders and changemakers.

The “I WILL GRADUATE” Day celebration once again proved to be a monumental event, one that left students feeling seen, motivated, and ready to conquer their goals. With inspiring figures across various industries coming together for a common cause, the celebration served as a beacon of hope and a reminder that anything is possible with education and perseverance.

As the afternoon drew to a close, students left with memories of an empowering experience, carrying forward the message of “I WILL GRADUATE” and the support of a community committed to their success. The event will undoubtedly remain in the hearts of New York City’s youth, inspiring them as they work toward bright futures.
