Sanaa Lathan

 

You may recognize Sanaa Lathan from her standout role in the classic film, Love & Basketball, but now things come full circle as she takes her seat in the director’s chair. Now, she’s excited as ever to be announcing the newest film on Paramount+ called On The Come Up, which tells the story of a 16-year-old rapper named Bri, who goes from the battle rap scene to a professional recording studio — all in an attempt to get her family some bread. Unfortunately, her reality is met with poverty and gang violence.

And what better way to celebrate the premiere than at Snoop Dogg’s compound in Inglewood?! On Tuesday, September 13th, Sanaa teamed up with Snoop to host the official red carpet premiere of On The Come Up. The event was equipped with food trucks, concessions, a bar, a DJ, and even Snoop’s vintage cars for guests to sit and watch the movie “drive-in” style.

On The Come Up is based on the the New York Times #1 best-selling novel by Angie Thomas, who also penned The Hate U Give. The emotions captured in the film is one that is unforgettable, as Bri is seen having to make life-changing decisions as she navigates family life and a budding rap career.

The movie itself premieres September 23rd on Paramount+ and runs two hours long.
