Sheryl Lee Ralph wins big at Sunday’s night Emmy Awards; the Hollywood veteran actress made history as the second Black actress to win outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for her role in Abbott Elementary. The beautiful actress , grace the stage in tears of joy with her acceptance speech follow by a verse from jazz singer Diane Reeves’ 1993 song “Endangered Species.”
“I am an endangered species, but I sing no victim song,” she crooned, holding out several words for emphasis as names of those she wished to thank flashed across the screen. “I am a woman, I am an artist, and I know where my voice belongs.”
What a magical moment to witness. A big congratulations to Sheryl Lee Ralph for her big win at this year Emmy’s and appreciation for all her contributions over the years on and off the screen.
