Her latest Power of Vision gathering was more than an International Women’s Monday celebration; it was a movement, equipping women with resources, mentorship, and real funding to scale their careers and businesses. From high-impact discussions with industry leaders to awarding a $25,000 pitch competition prize to a groundbreaking entrepreneur, Hurley proves that when women succeed, entire industries evolve.

Your Power of Vision event transforms goals into action. Please share with our readers some highlights from the event that truly encapsulated the magic of vision and community.

LaToya: Some of my favorite moments from the Power of Vision (POV) event include the late, great Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee delivering a powerful keynote at last year’s event and presenting proclamations to the award recipients. She was a dedicated supporter, and we were honored to be a part of her incredible legacy and life’s work.

Another standout moment was witnessing the vulnerability of our panelists. It takes courage to share the challenges of business, not just the wins, but the struggles, setbacks, and emotional toll that come with being a woman in business or a high-powered career. While it’s easy to highlight successes, opening up about the less favorable moments can be daunting because you never know how your truth will be received. Yet, your honesty is what makes these conversations so impactful and inspiring.

Regarding the National 2025 $25K Pitch Competition, could you share what specific qualities and criteria you looked for when selecting Aurelia Edwards as the winner, and how her innovative approach embodies the vision of She Makes We?

LaToya: For the Pitch Competition, we evaluated submissions based on problem-solving, innovation, scalability, impact, and clarity, and Aurelia Edwards emerged as the winner. She identified a critical market gap and presented a direct, well-timed solution. Her approach introduced fresh strategies that set her apart from existing options. She also outlined a strong plan for growth, showing how her business could expand while staying true to its mission. Beyond business potential, her idea carried meaningful social and economic benefits, demonstrating real potential for lasting change. Most importantly, she delivered her pitch with clarity and confidence, making it both engaging and persuasive. Aurelia’s vision and execution reflect She Makes We’s commitment to supporting women who are reshaping industries, making her a standout choice for the award.

What exciting initiatives can we expect from She Makes We beyond the annual gathering to continue empowering women year-round?

LaToya: We’ve launched a membership program that offers monthly mentorship, skill-building events, and exclusive opportunities to help you grow and advance. Members can strengthen their skills, expand their network, and gain access to valuable resources designed for professional and business success.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we applaud your visionary work leading multi-million-dollar projects and managing high-profile campaigns. What advice would you give to a woman stepping into a leadership role for the first time?

LaToya: My advice is to be patient with yourself and embrace the journey. Too often, we’re so focused on the next project that we forget to acknowledge and appreciate the great work we’ve accomplished. Take time to celebrate your progress. Also, having a mentor is invaluable, someone who can offer wisdom and guidance when navigating challenges you haven’t faced before. Surround yourself with experienced voices who can provide feedback, helping you make informed decisions and avoid unnecessary pitfalls.

Looking back at your career journey as the founder of Innovating Marketing Group and a seasoned professional in storytelling and brand strategy, what professional milestones are you most proud of?

LaToya: My favorite and most meaningful milestone has been the impact-driven work I’ve had the privilege to be a part of, creating lasting change in the community. Through initiatives like She Makes We, which empowers women by providing grant opportunities, education, and networking, we’ve directly impacted over 100 women, helping them elevate their businesses and careers. Similarly, Black Men Buy Houses, a client project that has gained national recognition, is restoring Black families by increasing homeownership among Black men, creating financial stability and generational wealth. Knowing that these efforts contribute to a lasting legacy beyond my own work and commitment to creating change.

What additional information is vital for our readers to learn about you and what do you hope they take away from this interview?

LaToya: No matter the cause or how small you think your efforts may be, to someone else, they can mean the world. The work I do with She Makes We is about more than just resources and opportunities; it’s about making a real difference in women’s lives. Whether through grants, education, or networking, our goal is to instill the confidence that they can achieve anything. Sometimes, all it takes is knowing that someone believes in you to push past doubt and step into your full potential.
