The phrase “if you look good, you feel good”, comes to life in the hands of a designer who pours passion and creativity into every piece they touch and create. For Taylor Sinclair, that passion was ignited at an early age as she used to watch her grandmother sew. However, her journey truly began January 2019, when her grandmother gifted her a sewing machine for Christmas. While her grandmother played a pivotal role in teaching her the basics and the foundation, Taylor has honored her craft as a self- taught designer based in Atlanta, Ga.

Her brand, TaySinclair, derives its name from her first and middle names: Taylor Sinclair, blending the two, and reflecting the personal touch she brings to her brand. Taylors designs are heavily influenced by the nostalgic, feminine styles of the late 90’s and early 00’s Disney TV shows she adored as a child, and she would often sketch out their outfit designs. Her mission is to revive these iconic, “girly” looks with a modern twist, which she also believes sets her apart in the fashion industry.

Taylor revealed that her design inspiration often comes from unexpected places, such as nail art. For example, she might come across a nail design featuring black cherries and envision it as a stunning dress, then bring that vision to life with her own unique twist. When she’s fully locked in, Taylor has the remarkable ability to create any design within just 24 hours, a testament to her incredible artistry, commitment, and creativity.

Taylor’s target audience includes young women between 18 to their early 30s, who are confident and feminine individuals who embrace their unique style. She understands that every industry comes with its own challenges, but she wishes more people recognized the dedication it takes to design an outfit. While the finished product may appear effortless, few consider the countless hours and hard work put into play behind the scenes.

Currently, Taylor specializes in creating custom pieces for women. However, she recognizes that she often operates within her comfort zone and is eager to challenge herself and push herself creatively in the future. In addition to her designs, she also offers 1:1 sewing classes for those interested in starting their journey as a designer or simply learning how to sew. With prom season just around the corner, she is now accepting bookings for customized prom attire.

Looking ahead, Taylor envisions expanding her brand significantly, both in terms of design and operations. As she currently manages everything on her own, she hopes to build a dedicated team to support her growing business. She also aims to broaden her portfolio by designing pieces for both men and women while introducing staple items that reflect the essence of TaySinclair, moving beyond just custom creations.

Taylor acknowledges that working with clients can sometimes be challenging, especially when they have a very specific vision in mind. She emphasizes the importance of striking a balance between her creative artistry and the clients practical needs, trusting her expertise to determine what will ultimately look best. Taylor is also adamant about maintaining her originality as a designer. She refuses to be known for simply recreating existing looks and always ensures there’s space for her own creativity, even when clients present her with specific requests. Fortunately, most of her clients trust her judgement allowing her to consistently deliver stunning and unique results. Still, she encourages her customers to embrace what feels right to them, ensuring they not only look good, but also feel confident in their pieces.

One of Taylor’s proudest moments was hosting a celebratory pink party in her hometown of St. Louis in 2021 to honor her accomplishments. The event included a heartfelt fashion show with her custom pieces and a large crowd of supporters, leaving her deeply moved and inspired.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, Taylor offers invaluable advice: just start. She stresses the importance of trusting your instincts and not letting other opinions and your own doubt hold you back. If it feels right to you, take that leap. She also emphasizes consistency and staying true to yourself and your brand, especially during challenging times when motivation may waver. Taylor reminds others to always reflect on why they began in the first place, it’s the key to pushing through and achieving success.
