Wolftrap, in Vienna, Va., was packed from the orchestra pit seats through the lawn area for the Boyz II Men and SWV concert this past Friday, September 16, 2022. Sisters with Voices(SWV) hit the stage and it was an instant step back to the nineties, as if time never crossed their paths. Their voices, as strong as ever, had the audience on their feet for the entire set. SWV performed their top hits, from “Anything” to “Weak” in matching white sequined outfits, flowing hair and their signature long nails. They also threw in their mixed rendition of “Yearning for Your Love” by the Gap band with their own “You’re Always on My Mind” in perfect harmony. Fans of Cheryl Gamble, Tamara Johnson and Leanne Lyons, were left satiated with SWV’s unending talent and delivery of their beloved songs. They are definitively one of the best music groups of all time, whether you’re listening from a recording or live, hitting notes only rivaled by Whitney or Mariah.
SWV was the perfect introduction to the headliners, Boyz II Men. The audience’s musical spirit was prepped and ready for Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman as they leaped onstage with their opening song “Motownphilly”. Female audience members fell to their knees, hugged companions in excitement and reached for the crooners as they began their set. B2M also performed songs from their album “Collide” released nine years ago, were they showcased an extensive range of music genres. Shawn Stockman, a self-taught guitarist via YouTube, performed a solo of Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight” while Wanya belted out Bruno Mars’, “Sex Takes Me to Paradise” and “Come Together” by the Beatles. Wanya took the time to thank Stockman for convincingthe group to expand their repertoire and become inclusive of rock anthems. Boyz II Men completed their performance with their well known ballads, “Water Runs Dry”, “I’ll Make Love To You” and “One Sweet Day” whilst gifting the audience red, long-stemmed roses. One audience member hyperventilated as Wanya teased her with the last rose, she then screamed with delight when he handed over the prized memento. Boyz II Men still has the power to soothe the souls of their forever adoring fans.
