Your hair questions answered by Master Hairstylist Cynthia Meadows.
Q. How do I achieve high moisture and defined curls in different seasons?
A. Your hair changes throughout different seasons, you will need good moisture and hydration in order to keep your natural coils defined. When the seasons sift to winer (below 50 degrees Fahrenheit/10 degrees Celsius) your scalp will appear to be more dry and flaky. This means that your curly hair routine will need more TLC than usual with the use of more oils and film-forming styling products (Aloe vera, marshmallow root or flaxseed). In the summer (above 60 degrees Fahrenheit/15 degrees Celsius) as the weather becomes more humid, you may notice more frizz, loss in curl pattern, and lack of volume. This is because your hair absorbs more water, resulting in cuticle disruption. You would need light moisturizer and humidity-resistant ingredients in your gel or mousse to provide a strong hold for your curls. Frequenters deep conditioning treatments and hair masks is needed twice a month to maintain a good hair care regiment overall.
