Compton-based, Pucker Up Lemonade Company handcrafts over 60 flavors of Lemonade, Iced Tea, and infused Water. With humble beginnings, in 2011 Pucker Up began as a school fundraiser with little more than an igloo and an ice chest. The owner Karneisha Christian-Stewart took a childhood memory and grew a business.
Their secret ingredient was a family recipe created by her father. With amazing reviews and attention to detail, Pucker Up grew from a Lemonade Stand to a brick-and-mortar location with their flagship store located in Compton, CA. Their goal is to quench your thirst and offer you endless options served in a bright and welcoming atmosphere with a warm and friendly smile. They have a beautiful story on how they’ve survived the pandemic and pivoted due to inflation as a small business.
What has been your most effective marketing strategy to grow your business?
Karneisha: Our “Lifetime Lemonade Cup” with refills for $3 has been a game changer for Pucker Up! This cool cup with a Lemon top is both eye-catching and unique. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
While staying to true our brand’s story and identity, in late 2021, we introduced our “Pucker Up Jeep” (wrangler), my personal vehicle that doubles as my company car. It’s a fully wrapped mobile “billboard” that I drive for personal errands, deliveries, to events, etc. It’s very eye-catching and receives a lot of attention. It has been very effective at advertising our business all over the Southern California area.
Another marketing strategy is our “Pucker Up Bucks”, a replica dollar coupon that can be redeemed in-store for $1 off purchase.
What’s your best piece of advice for aspiring and new entrepreneurs especially in the food/beverage industry?
Karneisha: One of my best pieces of advice is to start off with keeping the menu simple while you learn best practices, steam line operations, and build out your team. I believe this allows you to focus on these essential elements without experiencing excessive loss.
