Reggae-Pop singer/songwriter, OMI is back and better than ever with new music! After taking time to recharge his body and spend time with family in Jamaica, the hit artist is excited to release two highly anticipated singles this summer. We recently had the chance to sit down with him to discuss his new single titled, “I Want You,” what it’s been like being a creative during this time of COVID-19, and much more!
Tell us about the new single “I Want You.”
Hey thank you for having me. “I Want You” was definitely one of those songs that challenged my range and is more pop in terms of my hybrid genre.
How does this single feel different from “Make It Now?”
“I Want You” is really different from “ Make It Now” in my view because it consists of mostly the dancehall elements. With that prominent bass line and the easygoing flow in my delivery both songs are worlds apart in terms of feel.
Since releasing your debut album “Me 4 U,” what do you believe is the best lesson you have learned along your journey?
The best lesson I’ve learned along my journey is the importance of remembering the past to assure the future. After working on my first album with so many different writers and producers, my team and I also had the task of navigating the direction we were going to go after having a such huge debut single. Over this period of time I’ve realized that the real formula was in my roots and my culture, with that being said I’m forever grateful for the opportunity and the experience of working with other creative people through my label and would not change the process even if I could.
How has it been as creative during this time of COVID-19?
To be honest COVID-19 has been one big time-out for most people including myself, so I try to pass the time productively. However, it was not just all about music since I had other talents and passions, which I also discovered that each of them triggers an inspiration in the other.
Tell me us about your latest single “Crazy With Somebody”
“Crazy With Somebody” is one of the series of single we’ve been dropping lately which means we might have a decent summer catalog this summer.
What are you currently working on and what can we expect to see from you in the future?
Currently I’m just writing and composing a catalog of songs in the meantime, and I’m just trying to be prepared for when the cycle comes back around.
