Comedian, Ego Nwodim joined the cast of Saturday Night Live for the sketch-comedy’s 44th season as a featured player and viewers have not been able to get enough of her! That’s why we had to sit down with the actress to discuss her start in entertainment, her experience on SNL, and what she looks forward to the most in working with Eddie Murphy.
Tell us about yourself. What made you want to enter the world of entertainment?
I used to be a ballerina and I love the performing aspect of it. I noticed that I always wanted to skip rehearsal and get to the recital. I knew that I wanted to entertain and it became very clear to me in that way. I feel like I come to life when I’m performing and I wanted to chase that feeling for as long as I could.
How was your overall experience as a featured player on Saturday Night Live?
I would say it is rewarding, challenging, exhilarating, and stressful all in one. No day is the same as any other day and that’s always exciting. You’re working with the best in comedy so it makes all of us step up and bring our best. It presents a challenge for us. It’s truly a dream come true.
What are you looking forward to the most with Eddie Murphy back as host?
I’m most looking forward to just watching him and learning him up close and personal. I don’t think many people can say they’ve had that opportunity and I feel fortunate to have this chance to see him and how he works and potentially be in some sketches with him.
Were you a fan growing up/how did it feel to work with him?
It feels surreal. I was a huge fan of him growing up. I remember one of my favorite movies is Nutty Professor, he was incredible in that. Seeing him as many characters was so inspiring to watch. It’s surreal to see this person that I grew up watching, I will get to work with this week. Life is wild that way (laughs). I’m really excited about it.
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
Hopefully more comedy, I hope to create some more of my own content beyond the show as well. There are a long list of personal goals that I hope to achieve but how soon or far out they will be achieved is TBD. You’ll be seeing more of me!
