Carbon-neutral Hotel Belmar in Costa Rica has unveiled its thoughtful room renovations completed this summer. The redesigned rooms harmonize the property’s focus on its unique natural setting while providing guests with the desired modern comforts.

With Hotel Belmar already noted as being a beautiful hotel and a successful 26-room eco-lodge, what led to the new renovations?

Belmar: We can’t help it—innovation is in our DNA! It’s crucial for us to keep our spaces fresh and up to date, ensuring we continue to evolve. Our passion for aesthetics drives us to collaborate with talented design professionals, bringing our vision to life while enhancing the overall guest experience. These renovations represent an organic evolution, allowing us to express and drive our commitment to sustainability.

During the renovation, was each room created to be individually designed? Was each room designed differently?

Belmar: For practical reasons and to maximize material efficiency, we did not intervene in each room individually. Instead, after careful analysis, we chose to create a distinct design for each room category. This approach allowed us to optimize the use of materials while ensuring that each category has a cohesive and unified aesthetic.

How do you think the renovations will have a positive impact on those who come to stay at the hotel?

Belmar: Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We actively engage our guests by communicating our environmental practices through signage, messaging, and invitations to participate. The renovations are designed to immerse visitors in the natural beauty that surrounds us, creating an experience that reconnects them with the art of nature. Our goal is to offer a space that restores and rejuvenates, providing an ideal retreat for those seeking rest, renewal, and an authentic connection to Monteverde, Costa Rica.

Costa Rica is a beautiful place, what are some of the key environmental elements that you found to be must-haves to bring the vision to life?

Belmar: Costa Rica is indeed a stunning destination with extraordinary cultural and natural diversity. For us, it was essential to embrace the traditional Monteverde aesthetic while interpreting modern comforts through the lens of the lush tropical cloud forest. We incorporated natural materials like wood and stone, along with deep forest greens punctuated by vibrant pops of color and organic fabrics, to evoke nature’s sensory richness. Panoramic windows and spacious al fresco terraces seamlessly draw in the surrounding environment, completing the immersive experience.

With several options for interior design companies, what led you to collaborate with NAAS Interior Culture for such an amazing change?

Belmar: NAAS is one of the top design studios in the country, and they came highly recommended by trusted friends and colleagues. Beyond that, we found a strong alignment with their vision and approach, which made them the ideal partner for this transformative project. We love engaging with partners who share our long-term goals and with whom we can build lasting synergies and collaboration.

How can people remain connected?

Belmar: Connection is at the heart of our hospitality! We foster a deep connection to our natural surroundings, art, and local culture, aiming to create extraordinary experiences that inspire guests to return. To keep this connection alive, we proudly feature engaging content across the individual social channels of the constellation of experiences that make up the Hotel Belmar. Our talented photographer captures the beauty and charm of Restaurante Celajes, Cervecería Belmar, Finca Madre Tierra, and SAVIA Forest Immersions. By following these channels, guests can remain connected to Hotel Belmar’s unique essence and ongoing innovations.
