This just in the NBA has revealed that Gladys Knight will perform the national anthem at the 2021 NBA All-Star Game taking place in Atlanta, Georgia. The official press release states that this is part of a tribute to HBCUs as the league will honor Black institutions throughout the evening. Clark Atlanta University Philharmonic Society Choir will perform from their campus location a special rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Florida A&M University’s Marching 100 and Grambling State University Marching Band will also perform from their campuses. It has also been reported that the Divine Nine fraternities and sororities will introduce Atlanta’s “most reputable step teams from Spelman College and Morehouse College.” The NBA has protocols in place for this year’s All-Star Game. Players are only given a limited number of guests and they must travel to Atlanta by private car or plane. In addition, they will not be able to leave their hotels for All-Star events at the arena.
