Geno Shelton (better known as DJ Geno) is the concert promoter equivalent of a fine wine—seasoned, full-bodied, and slightly intoxicating. With over 40 years of experience under his belt, this guy has been curating live music and comedy events that people actually want to attend. Imagine that! Geno’s been the Beyoncé of Indianapolis’s entertainment scene for four decades. From spinning records on the radio to becoming the city’s go-to event promoter, Shelton’s journey has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride, powered by resilience, faith, and a whole lot of elbow grease. As he hits the big 40 in the industry, Shelton is all about keeping Indy’s music and comedy scene as vibrant as a neon sign at a dive bar. He’s got a resume that includes organizing the first major festival for the Indiana Black Expo, securing “A-List” talent for the Madam Walker Theater, resurrecting Studio 54 (because why not?), and collaborations with entertainment giants like Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, The Isley Brothers, Mike Epps, Charlie Wilson, Jeffrey Osborne, Babyface, DL. Hughley, En Vogue, plus so many more. Basically, if you’ve heard of them, he’s probably worked with them.

Looking ahead, Shelton kicked off his 40th anniversary bash with a concert featuring none other than Jeffrey Osborne. But wait, there’s more! He’s got a lineup of events planned for 2025, culminating in a grand finale at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. “Every event this year is giving back to the community — whether it’s the Boys & Girls Club or other causes. It’s not just about me; it’s about honoring the people who supported me from the beginning,”

In total, Shelton’s career is a masterclass in talent, determination, and a stubborn refusal to quit. His story is a hilarious, inspiring reminder that with enough dedication, resilience, and a sprinkle of faith, you can make a lasting impact on your community and beyond.
