The #FreeWendy social media campaign continues in New York with an effort to free former talk show host and media personality Wendy Williams from her guardianship. After the rally on April 1st, across the street from Coterie Senior Living assisted living faculty on West 35th Street, Wendy’s co-hosts continue campaigning for her freedom.
After the rally, on April 3rd, according to TMZ, Williams has famed attorney Joe Tacopina as her personal attorney. Tacopina has represented big famed stars like A$AP Rocky, New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez, and President Donald Trump. He joined TMZ host Harvey Levin through Facetime from his car and spoke on his plan for Williams and battling the guardianship.
“Once I am in the guardianship, there will be certain rules in the case. We can file for an appeal with the Supreme Court judge in NY or file Article 78, where we sue the judge in the case. I care about getting her out of the assisted living faculty. Everyday she’s in the guardianship is a travesty!” he said.
On April 9th, according to TMZ, her niece Alex Finnie and Tacopina were denied going to a planned dinner meeting with Williams. The guardian of the guardianship, Sabrina Morrissey denied Williams to leave the faculty and Finnie access to visit Williams at the assisted living faculty.
On April 11th, according to TMZ, Williams showed up to the court to Judge Lisa Sokoloff, and things in the courtroom got heated. Judge Sokoloff, tells that Williams’s career is over. After the court case, Tacopina blasted the lawyer saying the statements in court were outrageous and Williams was due for a comeback in court. Williams was granted permission to go on a dinner date later that night with her niece and former CNN anchor Don Lemon and his husband, Tim Malone, and dined at the Italian restaurant Cantinori in the Village.
As the case brews on, the effort to advocate for William’s freedom continues with the #FreeWendy Brunch in Harlem at Panda Harlem located on 12th Avenue next to the Harlem River. The #FreeWendy Brunch was hosted by Jason Lee, CEO of HollywoodUnlock.
With music on blast in the Asian fusion and Hookah restaurant. The six-hour brunch had attendees enjoying hookah and delicious drinks, but there were no sightings of Wendy or anyone connected to Wendy at the brunch. This includes former producers Suzanne Bass and Brendan Higgins, and anyone from Williams’s family or legal team.
After 4 PM, Hip-Hop artist Remy Ma made a surprised appearance and posed for pictures with Lee. She hugged Lee and enjoyed some food and drinks dressed in head-to-toe white, and laced with diamonds. The Brunch continues later into the afternoon. Once it hit 5:45 PM, the brunch started wrapping up and Lee posed for more photos with Remy Ma.
According to Johnny Nunez, celebrity photographer, Instagram post of the event, Lee and Remy, what was the purpose of today’s brunch. Lee responded “We’re celebrating freedom and let freedom reign for Wendy. I am disappointed that Wendy didn’t come, but I am happy that Remy is here!”
