Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4th, 1961. He attended Occidental College in Los Angeles in the year 1979 and transferred to Columbia University just two years after. He graduated with a degree in political science in 1983 and went on to graduate magna cum laude from Harvard Law in 1991.
While living in Chicago, Obama worked as a community organizer for low-income residents in the Roseland and Altgeld Gardens communities. He worked as a summer associate at Sidley Austin in 1989 (where he met our forever favorite FLOTUS, Michelle Obama). In 2004, Obama defeated multimillionaire businessman Blair Hull and Illinois Comptroller Daniel Hynes with 52 percent of the vote.
Just three years later, Obama made headlines when he announced that he would be running for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. He defeated Republican presidential nominee John McCain and became the 44th President of the United States. He won his second term of presidency on November 6th, 2012 by receiving nearly five million more votes than his opponent Mitt Romney.
