Fairfax Pictures has officially announced the release date for their highly anticipated thriller, “The Geechee Witch: A Boo Hag Story.” Directed by Jeremiah Kipp, known for his work on “The Mortuary Assistant” and “Slapface,” the film is set to hit theaters on February 2, 2024. The cast includes Sinclair Daniel, Tryphena Wade, Stephen Cofield Jr., and Ernestine Johnson-Morrison.

“The Geechee Witch” promises to be a gripping experience, blending intense thrills with deeper thematic elements. Kipp expressed, “The movie is scary as hell, but also has the dread of our collective memories, and that isolating feeling that evil is hiding in plain sight.”

The story follows Leah Robbins, portrayed by Tryphena Wade, who, after her mother-in-law’s mysterious death, relocates with her husband to his family’s estate in coastal Georgia. As Leah grapples with her new surroundings, she becomes convinced that a sinister force, a Boo Hag, is targeting her family. The witch, disguised in the skin of past victims, seeks to claim Leah’s life and that of her husband.

Wade shared her connection to the role, stating, “The vulnerability of Leah was the first thing that pulled me in. We get to see her loving her husband while fighting to be understood and understand what’s happening to her in this new and unfamiliar place.”

The screenplay for “The Geechee Witch” was penned by J. Craig Gordon, Phoenix Higgins, and Jason Walter Short. Fully funded by Gordon and Higgins, the film serves as an homage to Gullah/Geechee folklore and history. The Executive Producers believe in the importance of bringing these stories to the forefront, celebrating the rich cultural heritage they represent.
