Get ready because the Met Gala is coming back!
Just last year, the fashion’s biggest night was cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. This year, the big event is returning with two celebrations.
What? Yes, you read that right. In the official press release by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, it states this will be a “more intimate” gathering and will take place on September 13th, 2021. They will also return in 2022 with the event happening on the first Monday in May, May 2nd, 2022.
Hosts of the event have not been announced.
Each gala will center around a new exhibition from The Costume Institue. The first will open in the Anna Wintour Costume Center on September 18th, 2021 and is called “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” It is built around a fictional American house.
The press release reports that each room of the house will feature examples of the 20th and 21st century fashion that reflect “the customs and behaviors of the imagined occupants” while focusing on a different emotion. A dilm by director Melina Matsoukas will be shown in the galleries.
The second exhibition will be titled “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” It is slated to open in the American Wing period rooms on May 5th, 2022.
The press release states that the display will featureĀ “women’s and men’s historical and contemporary dress dating from the 18th century to the present in vignettes installed in select period rooms.”
Both exhbitions will run until September 5th, 2022. Mark your calendars!
