With over two decades of experience in the public relations industry and education, when did you know you were interested in your career?
Dr. Brinkley: Growing up in Liberty City, Miami, I saw firsthand how powerful storytelling could change how people saw the world. I knew then that I wanted to be part of that change. That passion led me to PR because I love helping others get the recognition they deserve. Even back in high school, I was writing for a local magazine called Teen Times Today and interviewing celebrity artists like Tamia, Craig Mack, and Kenny Lattimore, just to name a few, at WEDR 99 Jamz. I’ve always been a great communicator, and I realized that telling stories and sharing people’s voices was my calling. Then, I found myself drawn to education because I realized it’s the foundation for lasting change. My career has always been about shining a light on others’ strengths and making sure their stories are heard. It’s been a mix of hustle, heart, and a real desire to see folks win.
As an educator, you focus on empowering educators to transition into entrepreneurship. How do you make that happen?
Dr. Brinkley: I’m all about showing educators that they’ve got the skills to thrive outside the classroom, and I’m living proof that it can be done. I’ve landed contracts with both government agencies and corporate clients, so I know firsthand what it takes to make that shift. Teaching goes beyond just standing in front of a class, it’s about communication, leadership, problem-solving, and being adaptable. I help educators recognize these talents and show them how to turn their skills and knowledge into another fulfilling career. Whether it’s through workshops, one-on-one coaching, or creating custom strategies, I guide educators on how to find their niche, build their brand, and turn their expertise into a business. It’s all about securing that bag while staying true to what you love.
What are some examples of how this is done and the importance of gaining this education and transition?
Dr. Brinkley: Teaching is undoubtedly one of the most demanding professions, but the journey doesn’t end when you leave the classroom. I work with educators to help them develop a roadmap for this transition. This includes defining their niche, crafting their brand story, and building an online presence. It’s about turning their expertise into a profitable business that aligns with their passion.
For example, I had a client who was an excellent history teacher but felt undervalued in her school. She was passionate about making history engaging and relevant to today’s world. Together, we crafted an online course where she could teach history in a way that connected with students outside the classroom. She was able to build a community of learners who were eager to pay for her unique perspective. It was fulfilling for her and provided the financial independence she craved.
This transition is important because it gives educators the power to design their lives according to their needs. They’re no longer confined to a school schedule, which allows them to have more time for their families and personal growth. Plus, they get to do work that feels purposeful. It’s about taking control of your time and ensuring that you work strategically while enjoying a balanced life.
Can you speak on the journey and guidance you provide as a roadmap for teachers looking to thrive beyond the educational system?
Dr. Brinkley: The first step is helping teachers realize they’re already sitting on gold, years of knowledge, people skills, and organizational know-how. We start by focusing on what they’re passionate about and what makes them unique. Then, I guide them through defining their niche, which helps them identify their target audience and differentiate themselves in a competitive market.
From there, we dive into the practical aspects like building a brand, creating content, and establishing an online presence. We get into the nuts and bolts of everything, from writing a business plan to networking like a pro. I teach them how to leverage social media, create engaging content, and build a loyal following. And I make sure they know that while the grind is real, so is the freedom that comes with it. It’s a journey of self-discovery and redefining success on your own terms, but I’m right there with them, offering the blueprint and support.
What’s next for you and your brand?
Dr. Brinkley: The next big thing is my virtual homeschool, set to launch in the summer of 2025, along with new initiatives to support educators and families. I’m also working on content for entrepreneurs, helping them master the art of public relations and storytelling. Expanding the reach of HER Professional Consulting is a top priority taking it international, building a larger platform, and empowering even more entrepreneurs to work smart and live more. It’s all about creating a lasting legacy, leaving a blueprint that others can build on for years to come.
On top of that, I’m putting in work on my fifth book, set to drop in the spring of 2025. This new project is all about giving people even more tools and insights to level up their businesses and personal brands. As I continue to build my brand, I want to address a common struggle my clients face, scaling their businesses while maintaining a personal touch. Many feel that as they grow, they’ll lose the unique voice that made them successful in the first place. My goal is to show them how to scale without losing their essence. It’s about building systems that maintain the quality of service, allowing them to reach more people without compromising on their brand’s authenticity.
What would you like our viewers to take away from this interview?
Dr. Brinkley: I want folks to realize that no matter where you start, there’s always room to level up. Your skills are worth more than you think, and there’s a way to build a life that aligns with your purpose. I hope people leave feeling inspired and ready to take that first step towards whatever’s next for them. Life is way too short to settle for less than what you deserve, why stay in one lane when you can run the whole freeway?
I want to encourage anyone reading this to see beyond their current circumstances. If you’re feeling stuck or undervalued, it’s time to recognize your own potential. The world is changing, and there’s a place for your voice outside the traditional roles you’ve been in. You deserve to thrive, not just survive.
