Break-ups are difficult enough, but when they occur during a period of transition, such as the start of a new year, they seem to sting even more. Going through a separation with the person you were looking forward to spending 2022 with can seem unbearable. However, it can also mean a fresh start for you.
According to a Yahoo survey, January brings the largest number of couples breaking up. Twice as many break-ups transpire at the start of the year than any other month. While each pair has its reasons for calling it quits, let’s go over a few ways to help fill that empty space in your life.
Make New Goals
Let’s face it; life must move on after a heartbreak. Therefore, you cannot allow yourself to be stuck in a state of sorrow all 2022. Make a list of short-term and long-term goals for the year. Some of these plans can include ways to get over the relationship, including therapy or even yoga. By the end of the year, review your list and see how many goals you have knocked out and what work you have left to do. This exercise can help keep your mind off of what you lost, if nothing else.
Celebrate Yourself
Most people are excited to share their life victories with their significant other. However, a break-up will leave you feeling inadequate without that special person you’re used to sharing exciting news with. This is why you need to celebrate yourself often. Whether you’ve gotten a new promotion at work or successfully launched that creative endeavor that your relationship took precedence over, it is cause for a celebration. Treat yourself to that restaurant you’ve wanted to try or a night out on the town. You deserve to know that your wins are still valid even without your old flame by your side.
Take a Solo Trip
Getting reacclimated to single life means enjoying your own company. There is no better way to do this than taking a solo vacation. Now, if you’ve never traveled alone, it may be a tad bit intimidating. But, with some proper planning and research of your destination, you can have the time of your life while reflecting on your new normal.
Spend Time With Your Friends
Life happens, and when you are in a relationship, it can be easy to spend all of your free time with your partner. Friends are often neglected, though it is usually never intentionally. Use your newfound single status to reconnect with your friends. Plan a game night at your home or gather all your pals at a popular lounge. You will need your support system to get through the bouts of loneliness. Reach out and reconnect.
There is no rule book to getting over heartbreak, but there are ways to soften the blow. Be kind to yourself during this time and take all the necessary steps to heal.
Handle yourself with care all 2022.
