The original track is centered around a concept that Take A Daytrip created, who Sprite engaged to serve as music directors for season three. Blxckie joins a diverse group of international artists, including Young Miko from Puerto Rico, Fireboy DML from Nigeria, XAMÃ from Brazil, Lay Zhang from China, Doechii from the United States, and Mahalia from Great Britain for this season. Each artist had full creative control over how they wanted to tweak the hook according to their artistic vision, in an effort to share their stories about how they stay cool under life’s everyday stress and tension.
“South” demonstrates Blxckie’s ability to succinctly describe how he handles adversity, distilling complicated situations into catchy hooks with his conversational flow. The accompanying video showcases his come-up in real time, spliced with footage from the past that delves into how he became the man he is today – WATCH HERE.
On the fast track towards a mainstream breakthrough, Blxckie’s latest entry follows on from his major label debut EP, see u soon. The project set the stage for a wildly successful 2024, which includes a recent nomination for ‘Best International Flow’ at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards.
Alongside the news, the Def Jam signee is thrilled to announce his first-ever headlining U.S. tour. In support of his aforementioned project, the “see u soon” tour is an intimate, three-day trek that officially kicks off on November 24th in Los Angeles with subsequent stops in Brooklyn (November 26th) and Toronto (November 27th).
Needless to say, he’s showing no signs of slowing down, and it’s only a matter of time before Blxckie reaches a broader audience. Stream “South” above and stay tuned for more from the South African sensation.
