In an effort to support black entreprenuers and experts in the world of skincare, we’re highlighting our go-to brands so that you can support them just as much as we do!
Black-owned beauty brands are something we’ll always celebrate. In midst of what our world is currently facing now, it’s a good time to support those brands more than ever! Black culture has influenced so much in all aspects of our lives including music, fashion, and even beauty.
In terms of skincare, there are so many black beauty founders that have poured their knowledge and love for beauty into a brand and well, they’ve done well!
This feature is dedicated to black entreprenuers and expert in the skincare industry that has completely changed the way we look at skincare.
Black Girl Sunscreen, if you’re a loyal reader of SHEEN then you know how much we love Black Girl Sunscreen. This skincare brand is specifically created for women of color. The founder, Shontay Lundy created this skincare brand to cater to fit everyone’s skin tone needs. The first product launched from Black Girl Sunscreen was the Broad Spectrum SPF 30. It is the perfect sunscreen for darker complexions and the best part about it is that it is vegan! In addition, the product is lightweight on the skin and does not leave a white cast.
Akura Wellness is a skincare brand that aims to provide people with clean beauty products and a healthy lifestyle. Through their products, they have provided us with a line of nurturing products since their official launch back in 2018. William Chapman III created this line in an effort to help others live totally well – starting with their skin. The brand’s best-selling product is their Advanced Hand Sanitizer. The hand sanitizer was released just a few months ago which came at the perfect time with our current pandemic going on. I love how soft this hand sanitzier is and that it does not dry out the skin. I’ll never look at another hand sanitizer the same way.
Nyakio, Nyakio Grieco founded Nyakio – a luxurious skincare brand that includes products inspired by the beauty secrets of her loved ones. She’s traveled the world and discovered rare ingredients across the world. We love the Youth-Infused Daily Defense Crème because it is such a hydrating product that naturally brightens the skin. It contains baobab oil straight from Ghana.
Oui the People, Karen Young founded Oui the People back in 2015 and since then, people have not quit raving about the products. The brand promises that they don’t want to perfect your skin, they instead want to make you feel beautiful in your own skin. Which, I thought was super unique in a skincare brand. One of the many fan-favorite products from Oui The People is their Featherweight Hydrating Body Gloss. I swear to you, your skin will thank you. I never felt so luxurious using a product before. It contains avocado oil, rosehip, and many ingredients that will keep your skin moisturized and glowy throughout the day.
Beauty Bakerie, founded by Cashmere Nicole, this brand has been killing it since their launch back in 2011. The brand is actually a passion project Cashmere started as she was battling breast cancer. In a statement to Allure, Cashmere revealed that the name of the brand comes from her sweet tooth. Their first product launched was the Wake & Bake face oil. It was created to provide the skin moisture and glow. There are 11 different oils in this one product! It even brightens and nourishes the skin to perfection.
