On February 20, Beyoncé will introduce a line of hair care products. Beyoncé’s first job was sweeping hair at her mother’s salon, Headliners, in Houston, Texas. The multi-talented musician revealed the news on Instagram with a teaser video. Beyoncé posted a caption with the words “Hair is sacred,” revealing the brand name, Cécred. The promotional video also included scenes of silk presses, braiding, and hair washing. Throughout her superstar career, Tina Knowles’ influence on her daughter’s success has been recognized. “As the daughter of a salon owner, I witnessed firsthand the power of community,” Beyoncé said in a 2021 interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “I came into contact with a lot of inspiring businesswomen. Teachers, moms, doctors, entrepreneurs, and artists—they all came through my mom’s salon. I saw firsthand how a salon can be a sanctuary for women.”
“I’ve seen how much black women’s emotions are attached to our hair and beauty,” she told the magazine. “The beauty industry does not always understand these emotions and what we need. I want to build a community where women of all races can communicate and share some of those secrets, so we can continue to support and take care of each other. I want to give women a space to feel their own strength and tell their stories. That is power.”
Yass, we love the empowerment and are looking forward to the launch!
