Committing to life as a student- athlete comes with its challenges, but Armone Harris has embraced the grind with determination. As Black History Month continues, it’s essential to highlight and recognize individuals such as Harris who embody resilience and commitment both on and off the field.

A junior wide receiver at Clark Atlanta University, Harris has had a passion for sports since childhood. Growing up in Tampa, Florida, he played basketball, baseball, and football, but it was football that ultimately became his calling and captured his heart. His college journey began at Allen University, but after his coach and quarterback transferred to Clark Atlanta University, he made the decision to follow suit, eager to contribute to the team’s growth. That choice paid off, as Clark Atlanta recently wrapped up a strong season, and Harris is proud to be a part of the programs progress and success.

During the season, his days are packed, starting with early morning workouts, followed by classes, and then heading to the field by 5:30 p.m. for practice from 6 to 8 p.m. Even in the off- season, his schedule remains filled with workouts and classes still a priority. However, with a lighter load, he finds more time to focus on other aspects of student life. To keep up academically.

Balancing college academics is already a demanding task, but adding the pressures of extracurricular activities, especially athletics can heighten that challenge. For Harris staying on top of his coursework requires discipline and proactive planning. He makes a conscious effort to check his assignments regularly on Canvas and complete them ahead of schedule to avoid falling behind or forgetting. Fortunately, student- athletes have access to study hall, which provides him with dedicated time and a focused environment to complete his coursework.

When the demands of football and academics become overwhelming, Harris is aware of the importance of stepping back taking time for himself to recharge. He values solitude as a way to reset, but he also finds comfort in listening to music and playing the game, which help him relax, unwind and regain focus.

Playing football has shaped more than just his athletic ability; it has molded his character. Through the sport, Harris has learned patience, discipline, and the reality that success doesn’t always come easily. Like many student- athletes, Harris believes one of the greatest misconceptions is that they receive special treatment. While he can understand that outlook, he sees things differently. In fact, most people wouldn’t even know he plays football unless they found his social media or know him personally because he doesn’t talk about it often. For Harris, any recognition, kindness, or special treatment he receives should be genuine, not because he’s an athlete.

When it comes to inspiration, Harris looks up to Tank Dell, admiring how despite being the smallest player on the field, Dell is one of the most feared. That same underdog mentality fuels Harris pushing him to prove himself every time he steps on the field. His biggest motivation in school is simple; the opportunity to play football. He understands that if his academics aren’t in order, he won’t be able to compete. This drive is also personal as his uncle was unable to finish playing college football due to unforeseen circumstances, making it even more important for Harris to remain focused and see his journey through to the end.

For high schoolers preparing to transition into college, Harris strongly emphasizes the importance of staying focused and avoiding distractions. He reminds students that everything they’re excited about for college will always be there, but it’s up to them to prioritize their goals and to stay on track. With four years passing by quickly, his advice is to come with a clear mindset and commitment to their goals.

Looking ahead, Harris has aspirations of going pro, but he’s also thinking about life beyond football. He plans to explore opportunities in FEMA care and real estate, ensuring he is not selling himself short and has multiple paths for success.

As Armone Harris continues his journey as a student- athlete, his dedication to both football and academics serves as a testament to his ambition. He understands the sacrifices and discipline required to succeed, both on the field and in the classroom. With a solid plan for his future, Harris is determined to make the most of every opportunity. His story is one of perseverance, focus and extreme drive to achieve his goals, all great qualities that will carry him no matter where life takes him.
