Atlanta has a new brunch spot on the rise, and its grand opening made a statement. Some of the city’s most influential figures gathered at Five Points Plaza on Sunday to celebrate the launch of Betty Sue’s, a new restaurant by Bryant “Chef Baul” and Daniella Williams, a financial literacy expert and former celebrity hairstylist. If you’re familiar with Binky’s, you’ll love their latest venture. Inspired by his grandmother, the restaurant pays tribute to her legacy through its luxurious dining experience.
The grand opening brought together family, friends, and supporters, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mayor Andre Dickens. His grandmother shared a few heartfelt words, expressing how proud she was to see her legacy honored through the restaurant. Streetz 94.5 hosted and broadcasted live from the event, while guests enjoyed complimentary samples of Betty Sue’s signature oxtail and grits, cupcakes, and specialty cocktails.
The Williams family’s influence was evident throughout the restaurant, with menu items named after their children and inspired by some of Chef Baul’s clients’ favorite dishes. The goal was to make customers feel as if they were dining at their grandmother’s house, with Southern-inspired options like shrimp and grits, Fruity Pebbles waffles, and cinnamon rolls. Mayor Dickens sampled their signature oxtail and grits dish, praising both its presentation and flavor.
Chef Baul’s first restaurant, Chef’d Up, opened in 2019 and later closed in 2021. However, when one door closed, another opened. Daniella noted that the setback ultimately led to the success of Binky’s Eatery two years later, named after his father’s nickname, and now to the creation of Betty Sue’s.
“The inspiration stemmed from the hardship of my husband losing the first restaurant and wanting to come back stronger and better,” Williams said. “We wanted to continue our legacy and have the foundation based on Jesus.”
Chef Baul built an extensive career as a private chef for A-list clients, including Tyler Perry, Gucci Mane, Migos, and Kendrick Lamar. He brought some of their favorite meals to his all-day brunch spot. Inside Betty Sue’s, the ambiance exudes luxury, from floral decor to plush green velvet seating.
“I hope that it brings back that Southern and homestyle food that is affordable,” Chef Baul said. “The culture of sitting down and getting a good breakfast and going about your day rather than coming to party,” Chef Baul said. That’s the Southern culture that we have here.”
For those looking to experience Southern hospitality and classic breakfast favorites, Betty Sue’s officially opened to the public on Tuesday, operating from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
