Radio personality Angela Yee, and host of the syndicated radio show Way Up, came out to Brooklyn on 4/20 to celebrate women and minority-owned businesses in the community. Every April 20th, the holiday 4/20 is the day to rally to legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational use. Yee and other Brooklynites came to the Bedford Club Cannabis Dispensary located at 1102 Bedford Avenue for their annual 4/20 Celebration.
The Bedford Club is Bedford-Stuyvesant’s first licensed conditional adult-use retail dispensary. The Bedford Club offers in-store and delivery of cannabis products all over New York. The 4/20 celebration gave locals in the neighborhood an introduction to THC and cannabis products.
The 4/20 celebration was a community event that gave out free coffee, pastries, and desserts. With a purchase, at the Bedford Club, there were giveaways like tote bags, hats, t-shirts, and free hamburgers from sponsors Home Frite.
Starting at noon, Yee came to the celebration as a guest budtender. The coffee that was provided during the celebration came from Yee’s coffee shop, the brick-and-mortar CUP, or Coffee Uplifts People, located down the block at 329 Gates Avenue, one block away. Yee is a successful entrepreneur with many business ventures, and Coffee Uplifts People is one of the purpose-driven coffee shops that is shedding light on and honoring coffee’s African roots. Her coffee brand has now extended out to a line in Target.
Yee was throughout the day and filmed content for social media. ” I am happy to sponsor the event and provide the coffee from my coffee shop,” she said.
Yee and other Brooklynites enjoy food and drinks from sponsors like Deylachka’s Sweets Bar and Nuchas food truck that provides authentic Argentina food Shoppers were treated with free samples of THC-fused candies, sodas and other products introducing you to the world of cannabis products. There was a wide range of products from various brands like Blox THC gummies, Ruby Farms vegan cannabis gummies infused with mushrooms, Florist Farms Gush Mintz, a hybrid THC gummies and mints with matching grinder.
As the day continued, partyers enjoyed food and drinks explored the world of cannabis, and promoted the cause of 4/20. April 20th or 4/20, is the national holiday celebrated by marijuana smokers to smoke freely for one day. It is also referred to the police code “420” which refers to marijuana smoking in progress. The holiday started in 1971 at 4:20 PM, by a group of bell-bottomed high school students from San Rafael High School in San Francisco, California called the Waldos.
Since 2024, with the Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) program, over 5,000 licenses, permits, and registrations have been approved in New York. The cannabis business in New York has surpassed a historic milestone with over $1 billion in retail sales.
Today’s 4/20 celebration was not only a celebration of the growth of cannabis-based businesses but a celebration of women-owned and minority-owned businesses all over Brooklyn that help bring diversity to the community.
