Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs Brings Dance, Education and Joy to People of All Ages Across the Country

AileyCamp operated successfully this summer in 10 cities nationwide, transforming the lives of youth ages 11-14 under the direction of Nasha Thomas. With AileyCamp Too! expanding the summer session, students from the local Children’s Aid/AileyCamp New York will reunite and reinforce their summer experience with special fall activities, including the opportunity to witness Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater on stage at New York City Center, where three current Company members are alumni of the AileyCamp program.

Alongside Ailey’s Teaching Artists, Nasha Thomas continues her dedication to youth across the country by conducting National Residencies this fall kicking off in Miami, Florida in November, and continuing through 2024 in conjunction with Ailey’s United States Tour.

After a successful partnership in 2022 with the City of Newark Senior Services and support from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, the AileyDance for Active Aging program returns to Newark this fall, uplifting and spreading joy among the older adult community. Kicking off their residencies in October, members from the Newark community as well as Bethany Senior Center, Ironbound Senior Center, and Nellie Grier Senior Citizens Center have been participating in the program and are preparing for a special holiday culminating performance at 11am on Tuesday, December 19 at Bethany Senior Center in Newark.
