Rahne Jones stars in Netflix’s hit series, The Politician. Watching the show, I would have never been able to guess that this was Jones’ acting debut. Know I am not the only one because people are still wondering just who she is! Jones is set to return to the hit series for the second season to reprise her role of Skye Leighton. In this exclusive interview with Rahne Jones, we discussed her role, season two of The Politician, and much more!
Tell us about your role in the Netflix series, The Politician.
I play Skye Leighton. She is an advisor or campaign staffer for Payton Hobart – the main character. He has political ambitions to be President of The United States one day. This season really see Skye come together with the team and be a team player for the common goal. Skye is a gender non-conforming lesbian and she is out and proud. She is vocal, she will speak no matter what. It’s been a nice trajectory to play.
In what ways do you believe you and your character, Skye are similar and/or different?
In the first season, I would say that other than aesthetically we were different people. Skye is very vocal and will speak her mind no matter what. I’m a little bit more subdued and laid back. Lately, with all this going on in the world, I’ve realized that it’s my duty to speak up on injustices. I have taken some cues from Skye and speaking the truth! (Laughs). I’ve kind of grown to become more like Skye.
What can viewers expect to see in the second season of the show?
In the second season we see Payton Hobart running for State Senator in New York. He’s going up against Dede Standish (portrayed by Judith Light). You get to see the ins and outs of each campaign. There is a lot going on! It’s entertaining, funny, I can’t wait for people to see.
How has quarantine life been as an actress?
As an actress, it has been interesting. As far as press, you typically travel, do press days, and engage with others. Now, there is a lot of Zoom and phone calls happening. It’s been a little refreshing to see how the industry has adapted to this situation. I’m curious to see how it will go back after. For me, acting is about studying performances. I’ve been watching a ton of movies so I can stay fresh and continue to learn during this downtime.
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
Well, promoting this show and hoping for a season three. I have a couple things lined up that I can necessarily talk about right now, but I am excited for when quarantine is over, and we can be on set. I wish I could say what they were but just know I’m excited for them!
