Fashion lovers celebrated Earth Day with the Annual $1 Earth Day sale at the Buffalo Exchange in Chelsea on East 26rd Street. On April 19th, the line swung around the block for the outside pop-up sale, where Buffalo Exchange had selected items to sell for only $1. Shoppers were timed in 15-minute intervals to grab as many clothes, shoes, and accessories. The money made from the Earth Day $1 sale will be donated to America Wild Horse Conservation to support the case for America’s wild horses.
Sustainable fashion is not new at Buffalo Exchange. Buffalo Exchange is not only a fashion treasure chest for deals on designer clothes. It is also a buy, sell, and trade clothing store where people can stay stylish and sustainable. By selling clothing, shoes, and accessories, people can turn their closets into cash and get 25% on-the-spot cash or 50% store credit to shop.
There are four other locations in New York the East Village, Astor Place, Brooklyn, and NoHo. “It is nice to shop secondhand to help the environment,” said William Kunga, a college student, barista, and musician in New York. “Besides today’s Earth Day $1 sale, there is something worth finding,” he said.
As the bell chimed, shoppers in groups of 10 ran to the racks to get their hands on designer deals. Many shoppers came out and snatch up some incredible deals. “I love to come to Buffalo Exchange to trade my clothes and other stuff,” said Yi Kao, an office worker in New York. “I saw the sale for $1 and come in and get some clothes”
Shoppers had many different reasons to shop the $1 sale. “I am prepping for my upcoming vacation to Korea,” said Angel Gonzalez, a college student who is an illustration major.” Honestly, I need new summer staples, because most of my wardrobe is winter stuff. I love a layering moment,” said Gonzalez.
Some shoppers strike gold with amazing finds. One shopper scored a peacock blue Miss Sixty trench coat for $1. “I came wanted to support Buffalo Exchange and today’s sale,” said Alma Lee, a New York-based stylist. Some shoppers found one–of–a–kind designer finds like Jisoo Lee, a local college student, found a black cotton Escada skirt. “I like stopping here because I always find good stuff and everything is for $1 today!’ she said.
The day continued with Buffalo Exchange workers came and gave out bottles of water and snacks to shoppers on the line. The sale that started at 11AM went on throughout the day until wrapping it up after 4PM. Shoppers that did make a purchase also got free merchandise like Buffalo Exchange buttons, and stickers.
“Today’s event was pretty successful,” said Christina H, assistant manager, “This year, we had a lot more clothes to put on sale. The clothes were much trendier than last year, and I like that the sale is for a good cause,” she said.
