There are historical facts that perfume has been in existence for thousands of years. Evidence indicates that a female chemist named Tapputi Belatekallim from Mesopotamia, was the first perfume maker. She blended essential oils creating unique scents.
It is noted that the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, wore such an exotic scent that could be smelled from miles away. Her perfume notes consisted of Myrr, cinnamon and honey which she also used to scent her living quarters.
In ancient times certain oils and scents were used for worship, purifying, medications, and embalming. Perfume was also of importance in Persian Noble Society. Persian Kings had their own signature scent that no one else could wear.
Now in modern times, France has become one of the top markets in the perfume industry, with Dior, Chanel, and Guerlain being the leading brands. Perfume has become an enhancement and finishing touch of a woman’s attire. It’s a personal statement and can reflect her personality. Wearing perfume can boost confidence, create a lasting impression or make an emotional connection.
When shopping for perfume it’s important to test the perfume you like before purchasing it. Each perfume has a top note, a middle note and a base note. Always spray the perfume on your skin when testing. For best long lasting results, apply perfume to your pulse points such as your wrist, the back of your ears or your neck.
Our body chemistry plays a huge role in how a fragrance smells on us. Some factors are PH balance, diet and even hormones can affect how a scent develops over time. Oily skin tends to hold fragrance longer intensifying the scent, Dry skin fades quicker, so richer oil-based scents would work better.
For a sensual romantic mood, specific notes include vanilla, rose, amber or musk. Woody and spicy notes enhance warmth and can be invigorating.
Storing perfume plays a factor in shelf life. It’s best to store in a cool darker place. Perfumes are made of chemicals that can degrade over time due to air heat and extreme light. Unopened perfume can last up to 3-5 years. Once opened perfume can last up to 3 years. You can tell if the perfume is expired by a sour or vinegar like smell. The color may change as well.
I personally enjoy wearing perfume. There are so many perfumes to choose from and DIY perfume kits are also available.
So, what’s your perfect perfume note? Enjoy exploring!
