Mirror, mirror on the wall who’s got the brightest smile of all! Do you? A smile is worth a thousand words. A smile can express kindness, joy, and gratitude. A smile can also be quite embarrassing or offensive.

Taking care of our teeth is very important.  Brushing and flossing should be included in our daily routine. Dentists have also recommended brushing our tongues. As we indulge different types of food throughout the day our tongue becomes vulnerable to bacteria, which potentially can be harmful to our bodies according to the American Dental Association. Tongue bacteria can cause bad breath, tooth decay, cavities, and tooth loss. It’s recommended by dentists to replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months because the toothbrush bristles get worn which decreases efficacy.

It’s recommended children should have their first dental visit by twelve months of age.   During the dental visit inquire about sealants for your child. Dental sealants help to prevent cavities and protect against tooth decay.  They typically last up to five years or longer with proper care.

Poor dental hygiene can also lead to Gingivitis, which is a gum disease caused by plaque and bacteria. Thankfully, regular cleanings from a dentist or dental hygienist can remove plaque deposits before gingivitis causes serious problems.

You are what you eat, so be cautious about eating sugary or highly acidic foods which are not good for oral health. It’s best to focus on eating fruits and vegetables to embrace a healthier life. Drinking water is another important factor.

Dentists recommend whitening, which is a cosmetic procedure to remove stains and discoloration from teeth. This procedure can be done annually.

Healthy looking teeth can contribute to your well-being as well as self-confidence. A smile can change a mood, boost productivity, and improve relationships.

Now,  who’s ready for a smiling selfie!
