This Honor was bestowed by the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington Germantown Branch

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington Germantown Branch has named youth author and competitive diver extraordinaire Sanaa Chege as the 2025 Youth of the Year! This prestigious honor comes as a result of her consistent commitment to bettering her community. During her more than 10 years of membership, she has created a food pantry and has organized a plethora of events as Keystone President. In their words, they describe Chege as “the epitome of what a club teen exemplifies, and is an amazing candidate for Youth of the Year.”

On Saturday, February 8, 2025 Chege will carry her current title and compete for the chance to be the 2025 Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington Youth of the Year where she will represent her Germantown Branch with pride. In her own words, Chege says, “The club has helped me achieve my goals by giving me countless opportunities and experiences. Some of those experiences include The Princess Club, Keystone Club and being a Junior Leader. ” She continues, “I believe one of the most important skills needed to effectively serve the community as a youth advocate is being accountable. It is very important that people are able to count on you and trust what you say. I have also found that it is important to have a sense of humor in order to connect with the youth. It helps them realize you are approachable.”

When speaking of the possibility of winning this weekend, Chege says, “If I am chosen as the National Youth of the Year I will advocate for change for the 4 million youth I represent by listening to their concerns, help make change through advocacy, and continue to be a role model in my community.”
