If Medellín isn’t on your travel list yet, let me put you on! This Colombian city, famously known as the “City of Eternal Spring,” is a vibrant mix of history, culture, and adventure. But let’s keep it real—Medellín has some serious traffic issues, so plan accordingly unless you want to spend half your trip stuck in a car. Also, unlike Cartagena, you won’t see as many Afro-Colombians here, but the city is still welcoming and full of energy.
Where I Stayed
I checked into the Fairfield by Marriott Medellín, which was the perfect balance of comfort and convenience. The rooms were modern, the service was top-notch, and the location made it easy to explore the city.
Must-Do Experiences in Medellín
1. Comuna 13 Tour – A Must for First-Time Visitors
If you’ve heard of Medellín’s past, you know Comuna 13 used to be one of the most dangerous areas in the city. Today, it’s a thriving hub of street art, music, and culture. I highly recommend booking a tour with Medellín Tours—they bring the history to life while showing you the best murals, street performances, and hidden gems.
2. Paragliding – For the Thrill-Seekers (Not Me Though!)
If you’re all about adventure, paragliding over Medellín is an unforgettable experience. The views from the sky? Insane. My nerves? Also insane. I was way too scared to fully enjoy it, but if you love adrenaline, this should be on your list.
Best Restaurants in Medellín
Medellín’s food scene is next-level, and I made sure to eat my way through the city. Here are my top picks:
- Mezcla Restaurante Bar – If you’re a foodie, this is your spot. The dishes are creative, flavorful, and beautifully plated. Perfect for a date night or a solo splurge.
- Mamasita Medallo – A great place for drinks and delicious Colombian cuisine. The ambiance is fun, and the cocktails? Chef’s kiss.
- Andaluz Cultura y Gastronomía – A Black-owned gem that serves up traditional Colombian dishes with a twist. The service is amazing, and supporting Black businesses while traveling is always a win!
Final Thoughts
Medellín is a cool city with a lot to offer, whether you’re here for the culture, food, or adventure. Just remember: traffic is no joke, so plan accordingly. And while you won’t see as many Afro-Colombians as in Cartagena, the city’s welcoming energy makes up for it.
Would I visit again? Absolutely. Would I paraglide again? Hard no.
