Dr. Jennings, your journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, touching so many lives through your work in childcare and education. What inspired you to expand your vision beyond your own daycare and become a childcare coach, and how do you approach empowering others in this field?
Dr. Jennings: My journey into childcare coaching came from my own experiences as a childcare professional and educator. I realized early on that so many childcare professionals and educators are passionate about their work but struggle with the business side of things. I wanted to bridge that gap by sharing what I’ve learned and helping others build sustainable businesses without feeling overwhelmed. My approach is simple: meet people where they are, provide them with practical tools, and guide them toward long-term success. I emphasize the importance of systems, financial literacy, and self-care because I know firsthand that running a childcare business is more than just caring for children — it’s about building a foundation that supports both the childcare professionals and educators and the families they serve.
Your books provide a wealth of knowledge and practical strategies for those in childcare. As someone who’s authored several impactful works, what do you believe is the most overlooked aspect of early childhood education that professionals and parents need to focus on?
Dr. Jennings: One of the most overlooked aspects of early childhood education is the power of relationships — not just between educators and children, but also between educators and parents. We often focus so much on curriculum and milestones that we forget the importance of truly connecting with families and creating a partnership that supports the child holistically. Communication and trust are at the core of quality care. When parents feel heard and valued, and when educators are intentional about fostering those connections, children thrive in ways that go beyond the classroom. Building these relationships takes time, but it’s the foundation for a successful early learning experience.
Your upcoming Self-Care Retreat has sparked so much excitement. Please tell our readers all about it.
Dr. Jennings: I’m beyond excited about the Self-Care Retreat because it’s something that’s truly needed in our field. Childcare professionals and educators often pour so much into others that they forget to prioritize themselves. This retreat is all about refueling, reconnecting with your purpose, and developing strategies to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Attendees can expect a mix of relaxation, personal development workshops, and networking opportunities with like-minded professionals. It’s a chance to step away from the daily grind, reset, and return feeling empowered and ready to tackle their goals with fresh energy. The Childcare Conference Cruise is such a unique concept — combining professional growth with travel and networking and featuring keynote speakers who were co-authors in the collaboration book “Journey of an Early Childhood Educator.” This is a great example of how we can work together through collaboration. What are you hoping participants will take away from the experience?
Dr. Jennings: The Childcare Conference Cruise is an exciting blend of learning, fun, and community. My hope is that participants leave with not only new knowledge and insights but also with a deeper sense of connection to their peers. We’re covering a wide range of topics, from business strategies to personal growth, and I want everyone to walk away feeling equipped and inspired. But beyond the sessions, the cruise offers a chance to unwind, build relationships, and enjoy a well-deserved break. It’s important to remind ourselves that growth happens in different environments, and sometimes stepping away from the usual routine can open up new perspectives and possibilities. Having co-authors from “Journey of an Early Childhood Educator” as keynote speakers showcases how collaboration strengthens our field and highlights the importance of supporting one another in our shared mission.
Congratulations on obtaining your Honorary Doctorate in Humanitarianism, further solidifying your legacy as a trailblazer and advocate for children and families worldwide. What else are you excited about accomplishing for the remainder of the year?
Dr. Jennings: Thank you! This recognition is such an honor and a reminder of the responsibility I have to keep pushing forward. For the remainder of the year, I’m focused on expanding my reach through new programs and partnerships that will support childcare professionals and educators in scaling their businesses. I’m also working on launching more in-person workshops and mentoring programs that provide hands-on guidance for childcare professionals and educators who are ready to take their businesses to the next level. Additionally, I’m looking forward to collaborating with other industry leaders to bring more resources and opportunities to the childcare community. There’s always more work to be done, and I’m excited to continue making an impact.
