For creatives by creatives, the Black Girl Art Show has done it again. On Sunday, A Spectacular Black Girl Art Show brought together a mix of artists and attendees in Atlanta, looking to celebrate creativity and culture within the Black community. Launched in 2019 by founder Joshua Love, the event sheds light on the talent and stories of Black women artists. Love, an artist himself, also creates the branding for the event, reflecting his dedication to uplifting fellow creatives. Open to women artists at all levels, the Black Girl Art Show fosters an inclusive space that welcomes everyone, from seasoned artists to those just starting.
Attendees had the opportunity to purchase unique artwork and support local artists while enjoying live performances, cocktails, and light bites. What began in a church basement with just a handful of artists has grown exponentially, fueled by the support of creatives worldwide. Love’s vision has expanded the Black Girl Art Show and its counterpart, the Black Boy Art Show, to include more than 3,000 global creatives.
“I started Black Girl Art Show with 15 artists, and it was only meant to be one show, but it turned out to be the biggest show I had done to date,” said Love. “That just showed me I needed to do this more.”
For many participating artists, the event has become a tradition, offering a platform to connect with a growing audience and witness its transformation. Beyond displaying their work, artists use the show as a space to network, share stories, and build meaningful connections with fellow creatives and supporters alike.
The Black Girl Art Show isn’t limited to Atlanta; it is hosted in other cities, each featuring unique artists. Some participants even travel to multiple locations to showcase their work, broadening their reach and impact.
“We love participating in the Black Girl Art Show. It has been a big boost for my artwork,” said Maya Turner, a recurring artist. “It’s grown so much from city to city, and I really love the crowd that they are able to bring back that truly appreciate Black art.”
Beyond art, the event offers a mini-market atmosphere where attendees can purchase candles, jewelry, waist beads, and apparel, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
As it continues to grow, the Black Girl Art Show stands as a testament to the power of creativity and community. Each city it visits leaves behind a lasting legacy of artistry, inspiration, and opportunity.
