Music will forever bring people together.

On Friday, November 8th, Def Jam Records partnered with Complex to celebrate the iconic label’s 40th year anniversary, by hosting an exclusive HiFi listening experience by Slow Jamz. The evening not only celebrated the legacy of the label, but offered a safe space for music-lovers to conjoin, connect, and shop exclusive vinyls and merch.

Located at Complex LA’s pop-up shop at 433 N. Fairfax Ave., the highly-anticipated event drew out the entire city, as they raised a glass to celebrate Def Jam’s four decades of releasing groundbreaking music that continues to shape culture and define generations.

For those who aren’t familiar, Def Jam Recordings was founded in 1984 and has since represented the cutting-edge in Hip-Hop music for over 35 years. What began as an independent label in downtown New York City eventually gave birth to icons such as LL Cool J, Slick Rick, The Beastie Boys and Public Enemy.

Soon, superstar acts including Jay-Z, DMX, Ja Rule, Method Man & Redman, Ludacris, Rihanna, Jeezy, and Kanye West were born.

Currently on its fourth decade, Def Jam’s music and lifestyle has grown into a global brand – synonymous with creativity, quality and authenticity – encompassing a diverse roster of marquee and rising talent such as Pusha T, Big Sean, YG, 2 Chainz, Jhene Aiko, Muni Long, Bennie The Butcher, Jadakiss, Jeremih, and more.

Today, Def Jam stands as the most-followed major label on all major social media platforms, and has expanded to include labels in the UK, France, Africa, India and Southeast Asia.
