Black Girl Sunscreen is exactly what the name says: sunscreen for people of color. The brand offers sun protection products for daily use, made specifically to protect your complexion without the white cast.

Now, they’re expanding into the beauty and cosmetics world head on with their newest Make It Pop lipglosses. Boasting 3 distinct red hues, these sunglosses were made specifically to celebrate melanated beauty and complement darker skin tones. Of course, all glosses are infused with Broad Spectrum SPF, simultaneously nourishing and hydrating your lips with each application.

On Tuesday, October 22nd, Black Girl Sunscreen and its founder, Shontay Lundy, hosted an intimate dinner at BOA Steakhouse on Sunset Blvd., to celebrate the launch of the Make it Pop Shades. The evening called for cocktail attire as everyone arrived in their best dressed outfits, including Shontay who rocked an all red ensemble that matched the vibes perfectly.

The collection itself is called Romance In Frances, inspired directly by Shontay’s executive assistant Frances Forde.

“I’m very excited,” Forde states. “I just feel honored. I feel very, very honored, because they didn’t have to. I’ve been with the company for almost 6 years, working as Shontay’s assistant. This is very special. I can’t even find any other words.”

The collection itself features 3 shades: Cherry Noir, Red Wine, and French Kiss. And one thing that did not go unnoticed was the beautiful pop of red on Forde’s lips.

“The Cherry Noir is the boldest,” Forde continues. “It’s the reddest color, the deep red. That’s the one I’m wearing right now. That’s my favorite. That’s probably gonna be my go-to’s, between that and Red Wine. The Red Wine, when I look at the color, it’s more towards a raspberry color. The French Kiss, it’s the lightest of them. What I really love is each color looks completely different on every single person. So even if you have the same skin tone, it’ll look different on me, compared to the other person. It compliments every single person, and that’s the beauty of it. You’ll find a color that works with your complexion, no matter who you are.”

Throughout dinner, Shontay reminded us of Black Girl Sunscreen’s mission: to honor our complexion.

Dinh Phan, Director of Product Development & Sales, states, “This launch is a really exciting time for the brand, because we’re branching into a category that we dabbled into with our first launch. The eyes and the lips are the most neglected part of your body. We wanted to give women something that’s glamorous and gold, but with a little bit of a texture. It’s an SPF. It just feels good, it makes you feel sexy. We’re loving that we can offer another option to give you that protection, but make it look good at the same time.”

Make it Pop shades is 100% mineral SPF 50, with fully pigmented color. One coat offers full coverage, giving you instant confidence and sophistication.
