CultureCon is one of the most anticipated events for the next generation of Black creatives, providing a space to build connections and gain industry insights. Brooklyn’s streets were transformed into a camp-themed creative playground, thanks to the support of major brands like HBOMax, Verizon, Shea Moisture, Clinique, Pinterest, and Prime Video. The atmosphere brought creativity and community, giving attendees a unique experience at every turn. Day two was nothing short of amazing, filled with meaningful conversations from industry giants like Anika Noni Rose, Kristy Sarah, Cynthia Erivo, Tyler James Williams, Yara Shahidi and a surprise performance from Tems. The event was packed with unique activations, food trucks, giveaways, photo booths, and a fashion show.

The day kicked off with a panel of well-known influencers from Kensington Grey Agency, focusing on how to start a creative journey and build a lasting career as a content creator. For those interested in becoming influencers or fascinated by content creation, this was the panel to attend.

As the day progressed, actress, singer, and author Anika Noni Rose took the stage with host Bevy Smith to discuss her book Tiana’s Perfect Plan, which focused on teaching grace to the next generation. Reflecting on her journey as an actress, she said, “I want to leave my mark on this world, not a scar.” Rose emphasized how important CultureCon is for Black creatives, describing it as an extension of their identity. “It’s what we want to be,” Rose said. “We want to be around those who are striving to be better, who are bringing new enlightening thoughts, art, and work into our spheres, and people who are trying to grow constantly.”

Content creator Kristy Sarah, known for blending her family life into her content, including hilarious pranks on her husband, shared her tips on monetizing your social brand. She highlighted the importance of understanding her audience, checking her algorithm to see what resonates, and working with brands that aligned with her personal identity.

“Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo shared the stage with TV host and content creator Scott Evans, speaking about her career journey and the power of being an outcast. “Being an outcast, someone who isn’t welcome by everyone, who isn’t the same as everyone, who doesn’t look the same as everyone, doesn’t feel the same as everyone, something about that difference is what is powerful,” Erivo said, inspiring the audience to embrace their uniqueness. The audience also got a chance to take a peek at the trailer for “Wicked”

The audience was in for a treat as Tyler James Williams and Yara Shahidi, both seasoned actors who have been in the spotlight since childhood, took the stage separately. Williams sat down with CEO Imani Ellis to discuss his journey as a creative and the importance of right now. “Don’t miss the blessing that is right now trying to get to where you’re trying to get to,” he advised. Shahidi wrapped up the conference with award-winning host Tracy G sharing insight on the scary business of being a beginner. She also shared insights on the carpet about the transition from being a young actor to taking on more mature roles.

CultureCon 2024 was not just about the conversations—it was about the experience. Attendees lined up for activations and photo ops, eager to capture content-worthy moments. With this year’s camp theme, the fashion did not disappoint. From plaid tops and boots to custom pieces and overalls, everyone embodied the essence of camp in their own way. If you missed it this year, it’s definitely one to mark on your calendar for next time!
