What was the inspiration behind becoming an author?
Kiawana: My inspiration to become an author came from facing my fears and sharing my story, which helped me find and fulfill my purpose.
What is the mission of your nonprofit organization?
Kiawana: The mission is to support mamas and help them build their villages!
Do you believe in work-life balance?
Kiawana: I believe in balance overall, which involves learning when to say no, setting and honoring my boundaries, asking for help when needed, stepping away, working smart, prioritizing my health, and being comfortable saying no instead of pleasing others at my own expense.
What advice do you have for new and aspiring authors?
Kiawana: Follow your purpose and passion, not just fame or attention. Let your story be meaningful, transformative, and inspiring to others.
What do you believe would attract listeners to your personal story?
Kiawana: What would attract listeners to my story is how I overcame a domestic violence relationship, single parenting, and other struggles—all while maintaining my faith and hope.
What is your proudest business accomplishment?
Kiawana: Launching my nonprofit and compiling and publishing a book that was recognized on a Times Square billboard alongside phenomenal women is my proudest business accomplishment.
