“You were born here into this world to create things that we all can use. To be a creator, to lend whatever your purpose is when you find out what that is in this world to humanity”
For over two decades Actress Tamala Jones has shown herself to be a versatile star whose work in film and television has showcased her tremendous talent, comedic timing, and commitment to the craft of acting. With memorable roles and iconic catchphrases, the Hollywood legend brought her skills to the big screens this past weekend for the opening of Ordinary Angels.
Inspired by true events, Ordinary Angels tells the story of a hairdresser who single-handedly rallies an entire community to help a widowed father save the life of his critically ill young daughter. In the film Tamala Jones (Rose) plays the role of a no-nonsense, very sassy, loving, warm hairdresser and faithful friend to Hilary Swank (Sharon Stevens), who finds a renewed sense of purpose in spite of her personal challenges while helping a family in need.
This past weekend, the film opened with over 6 million worldwide theatrical ticket sales, scoring 3rd place at the box office during its opening weekend in the states. With a 99% audience score and 82% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, top film critics weighed in on the powerful, inspirational, and courageous film.
Top critic Neil Minow of RobertEbert.com wrote “One of the most affecting scenes is when both Ed and Sharon acknowledge their less-than-angelic conflicting emotions about her contributions, including the connection between her more destructive addictive behavior and her dedication to helping Michelle and her family.” It’s an observation that Jones say’s she hopes challenges the audience to look past themselves, their flaws, and their weaknesses when the time comes to meet the needs of someone else.
“…You were born here into this world to create things that we all can use. To be a creator, to lend whatever your purpose is when you find out what that is in this world to humanity. It’s not for you to keep to yourself, it’s not yours. And that’s what Sharon, I believe, taught Rose in that quick second. Life isn’t just about you, yea you have things you need to work on – we all do. Yea, you have things you need to get together – we all do. But this little girl needs me and I’m not gonna let you or anyone else stop me from helping them.”
“And that inspired Rose to help and understand that life isn’t just about my well being. It’s only about that to a certain extent. It’s only about that enough for me to be able to love myself enough to be able to deliver that same love that I have for myself to somebody who may need that time,” Jones explains.
Proud to add her latest film Ordinary Angels to her canister of Blockbuster films and TV shows ranging from her days on The Wayans Bros. and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to iconic films like The Wood, Next Friday, and Blue Streak – Jones continues to make an impact in Hollywood.
In a recent social media post, Actress Taraji P. Henson and Holly Robinson-Pete raved about her beauty, calling her pretty as she made her rounds across media platforms like The Sherri Shepherd Show to promote her new film.
