Sheen Magazine was where? On The Scene—per usual, for a star-studded event at the historical Plaza Theater in Atlanta, in celebration of Season 11 of the Indie Night Film Festival Screening making their arrival from LA to the A. 

“We are going to be the American Idol for films,” says the Morehouse College alumni Founder of the first and only weekly Indie Night Film Festival—Dave Brown. The INFF was created by Dave eleven years ago, with a strong desire for wanting to elevate writers, directors, producers, and actors in mind. While majoring as a filmmaker at Morehouse College, he had a plethora of great short films left over after graduation and he pondered on what he should do with them—shelve them or give them the opportunity to grow? Thus, he created a weekly film festival, despite naysayers overthinking about if there would even be enough films for a weekly festival.

The CEO emphasizes that the word, “No” did not resonate with him when it came to him developing his dream. Eleven years later and Indie Night Film Festival has maintained its position as being a thriving weekly event and now, the festival is on the road—hitting all the markets to uncover even more greatness. 

Indie Night Film Festival is described as being “the new dinner theater experience.” The festivals intentions are to give indie film makers the weekly opportunity to submit, potentially be selected, and showcase their short films, web series, trailers, documentaries, and full features. Additionally, the aspirers get to mix, mingle, and red carpet with a selection of mainstream producers, directors, writers, and actors at the monthly Indie Night Film Festival Screening. Dave says the INFF plan to be in markets, such as: Miami, DC, New York, Dallas, Houston, and San Francisco. From there, the chosen films will be escalated to the next level of being screened at the legendary TCL (The Creative Life) Chinese Theater in Hollywood, formerly known as Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. 

Atlanta’s edition was hosted by the iconic and legendary, Morris Chestnut and appearances were made by other legends such as: Terri J. Vaughn, Clifton Powell, Jill Marie Jones, Karon Joseph Riley, and J Young MDK. The six projects that made it to the Plaza Theatre big screen in the ATL market were: Perspectives directed by Courtney Miller and Executive Produced by Kaye Singleton, On Board Documentary with Director Deborah Riley Draper, Flipped directed by Lawrence Watford and Tiffany Elle Burgess, Directors Monique C. Baisden and M. Denise Simmons presented Enough is Enough, Heroes from Director Roberto Sanchez, and Mixed Girl directed by Josiane “Des Grey” Desir and Produced by Yandy Smith-Parker.
