If you have a passion for beauty or you’re simply in need of a change, you may have considered starting a beauty business from home. What could be better? Sitting chatting to clients all day while you make them look fabulous! However, how do you even begin on this path? This article will discuss one of the routes you can take into the beauty industry.
Training
While you may be a natural when it comes to nails and skin, it’s really important to get some proper training under your belt. This is not only going to give your clients confidence in your abilities, but it is going to allow you to get insurance as well (more on this later.)
Luckily, training in the beauty industry doesn’t have to be as lengthy as it used to be. Sure, you can sign up at a community college for a two-year program if you wish, but nowadays, there are intensive courses, online courses, and more to make your study flexible and on your own terms.
So, your first step is it start and look at accredited beauty training courses. You may choose to specialize in one area such as nails or massage, or you may want to offer multiple services, so make a list of your desired qualifications first and then start and search for training providers. Ideally, you want training providers offering qualifications accredited by a reputable body and ones that have good reviews from their clients.
Clinic
This is where you are going to have to invest some money, but it doesn’t have to be as much as you think. You may want to go the whole way and hire commercial premises; however, many people start in a spare bedroom or convert their garage at home. You may even go mobile if you prefer! If you have a quiet house when the kids are out, then using a spare bedroom is perfect as it is going to be the least expensive way to begin.
You will need calming décor, a treatment bed or table (depending on what services you will be offering), and storage for your equipment. Aside from this, some nice calming music is a lovely added touch to the room.
Insurance
Insurance is a must and while it can be tempting to skip this step, it is going to give you protection should anything go wrong in your practice. You will need public and personal liability insurance, and this will cover you for both equipment causing injury and anything that goes wrong as a result of your actions.
Practice
Before you go wild on clients, ask a few friends and family members if you can practice your newfound skills on them. Practice makes perfect, and the more you do, the more your talent will grow!
Marketing
Once you’re ready to go, you need to start to market your beauty business. This may be something as simple as taking out an ad in the local paper or dropping flyers to local properties. However, social media offers great benefits now when it comes to marketing your business and has both organic and paid options to help you reach your target audience. You can also reach a new customer base by promoting your services initially on daily deals sites like Groupon.
This 5-step plan is going to give you a great starting point for your beauty business. From here, the sky is the limit!
