Genre-blending alt-rock artist from Houston DE’WAYNE released his newest single for GOOD MOOD featuring GRANDSON yesterday, Thursday, June 2nd, 2022 via Hopeless Records, available on all streaming platforms. The track pulls major inspiration from The Ramones with the inclusion of lo-fi vocals overlayed across upbeat electric guitar hooks. GOOD MOOD is all about infiltration, breaking through the walls of social norms, and “…getting by, by any means necessary.”
“Good mood explains what’s been going on in my head over the last few years being able to sit and observe and most importantly learn how I’m going to infiltrate in the most beautiful/raw way. No matter how hard life and doubters kick you down, you go harder than them. I would say the overarching theme is to get to it by any means necessary.” explains De’Wayne.
Featuring GRANDSON, the classic alt-rock sound represents his and De’Wayne’s magnetic energy in their longtime friendship. The sound is reminiscent of late 70’s punk-rock meeting pop-punk hits of the early 2000’s. The thought-provoking lyrics contrast the upbeat energy of the song, lamenting grievances of the reality of adulthood, like “and if you make it out okay you’ll be lucky I was in a good mood today.” In tandem with this release, De’Wayne shares a one-on-one with GRANDSON where the two share stories from their longtime friendship, traveling, and the making of GOOD MOOD on his latest episode of DeWayne’s World. “My true feelings about this is pure joy… it was just perfect timing. We got the drums going, and he (GRANDSON) hopped on the mic and bodied it. I laid down a verse, he laid down a melody, and we cooked the whole night. It was awesome.” De’Wayne on collaborating with longtime friend Grandson.
Signed to management team MDDN, De’Wayne’s new track paves the way for his breakthrough into the emo-alt-punk revival that’s been taking the 2020’s by storm. Additionally, De’Wayne has just announced his North American tour “De’Wayne’s World” beginning May 26th, including festivals like Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, Bottlerock, and more. De’Wayne’s infectious energy injects some much needed diversity into the scene. With his upcoming tour and more music forthcoming, De’Wayne is sure to provide a fresh voice driving the shifting alt-scene.
