The 7th Annual Black Music Honors will be taped live from Atlanta, Georgia’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Thursday, May 19. The star-studded two-hour event honors artists and musicians who have had a significant impact on American music and who have been recognized for their achievements.
“We are more than excited to return to in-person taping for the first time in nearly three years with a live audience,” says Founder and Executive Producer, Don Jackson. “The pandemic had an unprecedented impact on the music industry and we’re honored to celebrate, commemorate and honor music trailblazers who have paved the way for the next generation of music and culture.”
Award recipients this year include Dru Hill, the multi-platinum, award-winning supergroup, who will receive the Urban Music Icon Award; Tevin Campbell, the five-time Grammy nominee; and Gospel duo Mary Mary, the multi-award-winning duo. Karyn White, Keri Hilson, and The Whispers will all be honored at this year’s Soul Music Awards, which will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 24th.
Multihyphenate LeToya Luckett and Chicago Actor and Comedian DeRay Davis will co-host the epic night of celebration. The special will air on Bounce TV on Saturday, June 25, and in national broadcast syndication from Saturday, June 4, to Sunday, July 3. Observing Juneteenth and June Black Music Month.
